Thanks for bringing clarity, encouragement, and practical steps to a very important tool to our spiritual formation that has been terribly misunderstood and misused. I've been shamed by hearing sermons about how Jesus "commanded" fasting in His words in Matt. 6 instructions on fasting by using the word "when". Instead of commanding us to fast with the use of that word, I think He is merely expecting His followers to fast, because it is His followers who will be hungry for more of Him, for more victory over the things that clamor for our attention. It's such a great moment to stand on top of something that had a hold of us before and now declare "Jesus is more important. He really IS all I need." Leave a Reply. |
